The VPN Academy was founded on the long-standing work of the Violence Prevention Network – an independent non-governmental organisation with 25 years of experience in the prevention of violent radicalisation. Our work brings together academic research and hands-on expertise, developed and tested in collaboration with international organisations, leading universities and innovative technology platforms.

Our Approach
Our work is rooted in an ongoing exchange between pedagogues and researchers – a dynamic process that is constantly evaluated and refined.
Drawing on Violence Prevention Network’s extensive experience in the field of disengagement, we understand that ideological radicalisation does not occur in isolation. It is interwoven with complex social and individual dynamics. That’s why our approach focuses on client-centred support and empowerment – to enable a life of self-determination beyond violence.
We view the prevention of violence and radicalisation as a shared responsibility across society. The increasing global trend toward security-driven approaches, which often portray individuals as mere “(extremist) fringe phenomena”, must be critically examined. These narratives – particularly in relation to so-called Islamist extremism – often overlook the structural realities of discrimination, social marginalisation and systemic violence. Responsible and critical prevention work must address and illuminate these root causes.
Our vision is of a society that does more than just react to crises – a society that proactively creates spaces for reflection, critical engagement and social cohesion, both in the workplace and society at large. That’s why we offer not only individual disengagement support, but also training in de-escalation, political education, and sustainable organisational development.

We are committed to building a society free of violence – a society that is actively shaped by everyone. We believe every human being has the potential to grow and change. To build a future together, we must create the right conditions and access for individuals to change. Violence – whether political, ideological or interpersonal – affects us all.
As a civil society organization, we accept this responsibility. The VPN Academy supports professionals, companies and public institutions in coping with various challenges. We create space for critical reflection, offer concrete strategies and build confidence. Our work is based on scientific knowledge, practical methods and a human-centred vision.
